Honesty is the most prized virtue in many of the civilizations that Gulliver encounters. In Lilliput, lying is punished by death and is considered worse than theft and other crimes. The Houyhnhnms cannot even conceive of dishonesty, which is a large part of their appeal for Gulliver. He comes to believe that they are the noblest creatures on Earth, far superior to humans.
