    Writing Myths of Our Own

    Kind of Activity:

    Creative Writing

    Objective:

    Students will be able to write imaginative narratives that connect to myth.

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.11-12.3

    Structure:

    To begin this activity, ask students, “What are some events that occur in nature without human involvement?” Students might say: rain, drought, earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes, snow, wind, plants growing, etc. Make a list of student responses on the board. Explain to students that some cultures have stories, myths, that explain the how and why behind these events in nature. The creation stories in Green Grass, Running Water are an example of mythology.
