Jaggers isn't a man who likes divulging secrets or information that is not directly his business. Jaggers goes through the hypothetical situation to give Pip his opinion regarding Estella's past without actually coming out and saying it. He also wants to Pip to know that Estella might not do so well amidst the upper class.
