What is the effect of his candle going out? What does the candle symbolize?

Pip is wandering around in the dark at the quarry by candlelight; this in itself would be a bit unsettling, but for as long as the candle is lit, Pip has a sense of control and comfort. The effect of the candle being extinguished would serve to add suspense for the reader and panic for the character.
