Most of Pip's expectations didn't turn out as he wished them to. He expected that becoming a gentleman would win him Estella..... he was wrong. He wished that Miss. Havisham was his benefactress because it allowed him to believe she meant him to marry Estella...... but he was wrong. His benefactor was no other than the convict he hadn't turned over to the police.
