Estella's pride is a direct result of her upbringing. She has been raised by a jaded woman, and she has been molded in that fashion. Havisham did not love her adopted daughter, she browbeat her and emotionally abused her every day to suit her own purposes. Estella was made incapable of love, and thus became arrogant and prideful. Putting up walls to safeguard your heart can cause one to become hardened; Estella was prideful, but she was also hardened by the desire to save herself from abuse.
