In what ways does the society depicted in Gattaca resemble the society we live in today? Are they positive, negative, or both?

The society portrayed in GATTACA has felt a great shift in culture; people are now discriminated against based on their genes not their race or sexuality. Our discrimination on so many traits is still prevalent. I don't think any discrimination is good, it just seems to be part of the human psyche. Genetic discrimination is only a matter of time. Genetic engineering is already a part of our reality.
