FUNNY BOY

Amma is Arjie, Sonali, and Diggy's mother. She is married to Appa (the children's father) and initially appears to be a tradition wife and mother, who caters to her husband's needs and cares for her family. Over the course of the novel, we learn that Amma once had a romantic relationship with a white man, a relationship that ended with the insistance of her family. When Daryl (her former boyfriend) comes back into her life, he is subsequently murdered, and Amma risks her family’s safety in nher attempts to find out what happened. In the end, Amma advocates for emigration to Canada, in response to the increasing violence in her homeland.
