Freak the Mighty

Max first meets Freak in pre-school. He remembers Freak bursting into the nursery school like he owns the place. His head is normal sized but his body is small and twisted beneath him. he has shiny silver braces on his legs, and he announces (yells) that he is a robot for everyone to hear. The two don't meet again until the summer before eighth grade, when Freak and his mother move into a house a few doors away from Max. Max is too shy to approach Freak, and he watches him from behind some bushes. When Freak sees Max, he tells the "earthling" to show himself..... marking the start of their friendship.
