Henry taught him to love nature and enjoy the innocent, cheerful faces of children.

Henry is everything that Victor is not--happy, focused on honest studies, open, and friendly. He serves as a foil in the novel so that we see how awful Victor is by contrast. He is a good friend to Victor because he takes time to help Victor recover from his terror and doesn't ask too many questions about what happened.
