Why do you think Victor Frankenstein abandoned his creation?

Victor abandoned his creature because he wasn't prepared to cope with its reality. He was horrified by every aspect of the monster's appearance once it came to life, and subsequently abhored what he'd created. He then abandoned his creation and left it to its own devices.
