What does Robert Walton tell us about himself?

Robert Walton is searching for knowledge about the North and the North land (what we would call the Arctic today.)  He has formed a crew with a group of men, some of whom are worried about what will happen.  He is writing to his sister about his adventures; she seems to be the only person with whom he can connect.
