What does Walton mean by "feminine fosterage" and how does it relate to his enterprise?

Walton notes his lack of parental figures and that his sister was the closest thing to a mother he had, hence "feminine fosterage". Much like Victor, Walton too explored books with wild abandon. While Victor was obsessed with life, death, and biology, Walton's passions were voyages and exploration.
