Whereas before Victor feared the Monster due to his frightening physical prowess and hostility, he does no more. This is because the Monster addresses him with eloquence and intelligence--even quoting the classic epic poem, Paradise Lost. It is now the issue of moral conscience that Victor fears the worst.
