how do the letters frame the upcoming story of frankenstein

This is a framme story in itself. It begins and ends i the same fashion. By the end of the novel, three characters (Walton, Victor, and the Monster) have had a part in the narration. Walton sets up the story through his letters to his sister. We find out the tone, backstory, and context through his letters.
