Ellis looks at the men, their character traits, and their differences. He successfully exposes their wants and motives, as well as illustrating the many different goals among these very different men. None-the-less, differences aside, the founding brothers also compromised, debated, and disagreed. They put their cards on the table, they fought amongst themselves, and on many occasions removed themselves from undesirable circumstances. They had to stand tall, bend when necessary, and weigh all options, but it was their character and dignity that enabled them to work together for a unified end.
