    What evidence helps the reader to uncover that there is a fray in society?

    Montserrat Fontes’ written work revolves around the conflicts that exist between the societal classes. For instance, Andrea and her cousin are a true reflection of how upper-class societies treat the lower-class people. People in the upper class are privileged with most luxuries and essentials of life unlike the poor people. Andrea and her cousin fail to understand why a woman has to engage in prostitution to earn a living. When they come across the prostitute woman, they expose her to society and she is later killed by the mob. Later, Andrea and her cousin are ejected out of the society for betrayal.

    Why did Victor kill himself?

    The reader can recognize that it is almost impossible to live with regrets and embarrassment. Victor and his cousin Andrea betrayed a woman who was killed. Victor is finding this tormenting and he cannot continue living with remorse. It is many years since the woman was killed but the memories are still fresh for Victor. Therefore, he decides to commit suicide so that he can get out of this world that he finds to be unfair to him. Andrea learns about Victor’s death and this hurts her because she was part of the scheme that resulted in the death of the prostitute woman. However, Andrea decides to continue living despite the bad memories of her guilt

    Is being a traitor one of the worst sins in the book First Confession?

    At the beginning of the book, the reader is introduced to Andrea and Victor who are rich kids. These rich kids have no idea of what it means to be poor. They have access to everything they need in life. Therefore, they do not know that poor people can end up doing anything to earn a living. When they come across a woman who is trying to do sex to earn a living, they expose her to be killed. However, they fail to understand that being a traitor is the worst sin in the society they belong to. After betraying the woman, Andrea and Victor are chased away from the community despite coming from a rich family. Their rich background does nothing to rescue them from the wrath of the community.
