Note the spelling of “Crookshanks” (258). Why was Leola’s name misspelled?

I think it really shows Leola to be an afterthought: an unimportant person that Boy happened to be involved with a long time ago.

His wife was glowingly described, though there was little mention of “a former marriage, which ended with the death of the first Mrs. Staunton, Leola Crookshanks, in 1942.”
