This term is loaded with meaning. Dunstan means to say that he was obsessed with saints in a way that was often less than intellectual. The term also rerferrs to Dunstan's personal saint-figure, Mary Dempster. After her "event" with the vagrant Joel Surgeoner , Mary Dempster was considered a "whore" in the town.
