What is the effect and significance of the fact that the play ends after Troy's death?

How would the play work and mean differently if its final scene were omitted? If Troy died onstage?

This is Troy's story. It's only fitting that it ends with his death, as that is where his story ends. The survivors have beaten the game.... they've won, and Troy lost. The woman he cheated on rose above, the little girl had a mother and father that loved her, and his son.... he returned for his mother. Troy's life can be seen in the same way as the game he loved. Strike One: Rose; Strike Two: Troy's loss of Cory; Strike Three: Death.
