I think Troy is a modern tragic hero. He does not fit the classic tragic hero definition because he has no epiphany or self-revealing moment at the end. He certainly suffers from his character flaws and causes the much of the suffering of people close to him. He is an angry man who never deals with his own demons but would rather blame society and the people around him.
