Montag is a fireman, and in the 24th century, firemen burn down houses where illegal books are kept. Burning books and houses gives Montag a great sense of happiness and satisfaction. This is ironic because in our world, firemen protect citizens and fight fires. They put their own lives on the line to put fires out.
