In response to Clarisse's question, Montag begins to pose that same question to himself. Clarisse's questions open Montag's mind. He thought he was happy and realizes he's not. He envies the way Clarisse sees nature, the relationship she has with her family..... she's odd, but she's intriguing. Montag is stagnant.... his wife is living in another world.... and he's NOT happy. Clarisse's question changes the way Montag sees the world, and subsequently, it changes his life.
