If Montag and Mildred didn't love each other from the beginning, then why did they marry?

From the way Montag questions their relationship, we can infer that at one time he and Mildred had a good relationship. We can also infer the the pills, and the technology, and the world they lived in changed their relationship.... became more important to them than each other. They grew apart.
