How does Montag show wisdom on page 92

On page 92, Montag says "I don't want want to change sides and just be told what to do. There's no reason to change if I do that." Then Faber follows up by saying "You're wise already!"

I don't understand how Montag is showing wisdom in this part of page 92 in The Sieve and the Sand.
