The Mechanical Hound stabs Montag in the leg with his powerful, long needle. The hound injects him with a poison that causes pain.
To mask his trail, Montag takes Faber's oldest, dirtiest clothes and instructs the man to burn what he has touched, wipe down his home with alcohol, and to turn his air-conditioning and sprinklers on full-blast.
