Montag imagines the jets screaming overhead and the instant destruction that follows. He sees an image of Faber leaving town going anywhere, "Its destination would be meaningless, and its point of departure changed from metropolis to junkyard." He thinks about Mildred in her hotel room watching the t.v. walls and then the bombs drop. Mildred is screaming: she is lost.
