Mildred is addicted to her TV parlor. She is a vacuous product of the state. She likes nothing that has intrinsic value and beauty. The wonder of nature affords no beauty to her. The countryside is only a place to inflict violence on animals. We get the disturbing sense that Mildred really isn't joking when she says this quote. Mildred has become a slave to a world that worships material possessions instead of love, literature, beauty and life. Everything is disposable to Mildred including animals.
