Fahrenheit 451

others work in the novel

If I am not mistaken in Fahrenheit, they make references to other works, well, can they tell me which work they refer to, at what time and why they talk about it?

There are many allusions in the book. Here are a few:

"You’ve been locked up here for years with a regular damned Tower of Babel." Book of Genesis.

“Time has fallen asleep in the afternoon sunshine.” Dreamthorp by Alexander Smith.

‘It is computed, that eleven thousand persons have at several times suffered death rather than submit to break their eggs at the smaller end.’” Gulliver’s Travels by Jonathan Swift.

‘That favorite subject, Myself.’ Letter to Sir William Temple” by James Boswell.
