The story of the dye is an example of how fantasy and reality can become indistinguishable. The world is so colorful, so embellished, that the people lose their keenness of sight when each color is restricted to represent an individual. Every object becomes a symbol of human influence, and the people can no longer tell the truth from the fantasy, the original from the presumed embellishment.
