Good deeds is presenting the idea that when one meets one's maker, good deeds will help that person gain a spot in Heaven. Everyman, of course, finds that none of the things that one has done in life will ensure a happy eternity.

Even though Good deeds says he will speak for Everyman, the story notes that if the good deeds are small they will not work. Ultimately, Everyman pleads with God for mercy and the Angel then helps him and the Doctor explains the meaning, emphasizing that one cannot depend on one's life to help with one's death and ever after.
