Leonardo da Vinci is portrayed as an advisor to the Prince in this story. He is also the one who creates wings for Danielle to wear to the ball in order to stand out amongst all of those participating for the love of the Prince.

What imagery is used in order to transition the audience into the time of the story told by the Queen?
The painting of Danielle is used as a transitional frame into the story about how she would becomes Queen of all the land. The painting was a wedding gift from advisor to the Prince and friend of Danielle, Leonardo da Vinci.

What causes Danielle's father to die and how does this add to the story?
Danielle's father is seen falling off his horse in the opening of the film. He dies, but we never learn why he died or from what. This not knowing leads to a suspense between Danielle and Rodmilla as we expect for Rodmilla to be the reason he has died. But because it is never mentioned nor investigated we only suspect that it was her doing, thus creating in our minds a woman of evil willing to do anything for more money, status and power.
