About the Author

Frances Burney, one of the most accomplished British authors of the 18th century, was born in 1752 in Lynn Regis, England. Her home was a place of art, filled with music and books. Because Burney’s father was an influential musician, many famous artists spent time in her home. She floated in the background, unseen by the artists who attended parties and other events in her home. She observed their behavior and shared her thoughts with a trusted adult, who was like an uncle to her. These observations eventually became the basis for Evelina.
