Why is Ethan Frome an intriguing character to write about?

Ethan Frome is an intelligent man, who made poor choices. What better man to write about. His youth is tragic because he had so much to offer, so many dreams...... dreams that went the byway for responsibility. He marries because he is lonely, because it is convenient..... then he falls in love and becomes reckless. There are times we feel sorry for Ethan, and there are times we see him as nothing more than a fool. None-the-less, he makes for good writing.
