Esperanza has matured so much since leaving Mexico. Through hard work and sacrifice, she has changed from a slightly spoiled girl to a mature young woman. Mama tells Esperanza that she is so proud of Esperanza for working, cooking, and learning to take care of the children. Esperanza does all this without complaint.
