It was never explained how Tio Luis and Tio Marco reacted when they realized Mama and Esperanza had left the country and they were left clueless. How do you think Tio Luis reacted after invitations were sent out and Mama had left? Based on evidence of previous behaviors of Tio Luis and Tio Marco, predict what happened when they found out about the departure of Mama. How do you think they looked to the public? Were their reputation and images destroyed? What might the local people be thinking and gossiping about?

Tío Luis is Papa’s malicious and eldest stepbrother who is president of the bank in Aguascalientes. After Papa's death, Tío Luis tries to marry Mama in order to gain traction for his political campaign, but she refuses. He later has a hand in burning down her house, thus forcing Mama and Esperanza to flee to America. I think Tio Luis would have been angry that he did not get what he wanted. He wanted control (and marriage) over his late brother's wife and was thwarted.
