I'm unsure what characters you are referring to by separation. I suppose, in general, this is a personal call. There is abject poverty in Mexico but the trip into America is fraught with danger. Once in America, there are new nightmares. In the end there is greater hope for Enrique's children through the generations. From that perspective, perhaps, the separation between family members was worth it.
