How does Ender defeat Bonzo’s army?

Salamander was told about the battle far ahead of time and already was in ambush position. Ender sets up his soliders in pairs, freezing one in a kneeling L as a shield for the other. The pairs achieve vast amounts of damage, and Ender's army still wins.
