Ender's Game displays a number of science fiction elements. It is set in the future, it addresses technology not yet available, discoveries of other life forms, and is set in space.

The novel can also be defined as a dystopia. We see the definition of family provided by the state, a limit to the number of children a couple can bring into the world, children being educated and used for government purposes, and humanity taking a stand in war against alien forces.
