Ender is constantly being monitored for how he reacts to a given situation. In that sense, battle school is a laboratory of sorts where every decision Ender makes is scrutinized to evaluate if Ender is ready to lead the ultimate battle with the Buggers. Ender's encounter with Bonzo is no different. I do not think Graff and the others would have let Ender be killed but he was certainly on his own when it came to the conflict. Bonzo,on the other hand, was dispensable.
