Mr. Knightley believes that Emma is so annoyed by Jane because she is jealous. Emma is given every possible comfort in the entire world, and has a horde of doting followers. Jane is an orphan, self-taught in everything. Emma had a governess, while Jane might become a governess. Despite these disadvantages, Jane is a much more accomplished person, and more humble.
