El Matadero

There is a detailed description of the work in the slaughterhouse by the narrator. How can this speech be qualified? Realistic, grotesque, adequate, unnecessary, appropriate?

The slaughter is a vile, barbaric process. Butchers are shirtless and their bodies smeared with the blood of the animals they are killing. Screams come from the animals as they are slaughtered and for the vulture-like birds flying overhead. I would likely say this is an honest and appropriate description.
