    Presentation: Amiri Baraka’s Life

    Objective:

    to explore Baraka’s life in depth and relate it to events in his plays; to practice public speaking skills

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.11-12.5

    Structure:

    Divide the class into groups of three. Give the groups 30 minutes to research Amiri Baraka’s life and beliefs. Students should focus on his personal life and his politics up until the 1970s or 1980s, and need only focus on his later life if there is time.
