Why does Van Helsing insist that Arthur be the one to drive the stake through Lucy's heart?

Until this moment, Lucy has only been penetrated by Dracula. The staking is, in a way, her fiancé's first chance at his nuptial rights. Arthur does the deed, even though it might make more sense for a more detached man to drive home the stake. Arthur is closest to Lucy and should have had physical contact first. This way he can restore her back even though she is dead.
