If Dracula is so powerful,why does he fear VanHelsing and escape England?

A wise and passionate old man, he understands before anyone else that Dracula is a threat to humanity and must be destroyed. Van Helsing knows all the vampire tricks and vampire fears. He has the knowledge to go vampire hunting. I'd say he smelled like garlic but I don't think that's in the book!
