Doctor Faustus (Marlowe)

When and under what circumstances is prose used?

Could anyone answer this?

Consider Act 4 sc 1 when the Emperor appeears. Faust speaks in prose suggesting that he is of a lower class to the emperor.

Doctor Faustus is written in unrhymed iambic pentameter (blank verse). Although portions of the dialog are written in free verse (prose).

yes but i need to find under what circumstances is it used
