Marlow is generally critical of Faust. Faustus decides to sell his soul to the devil in exchange for earthly power and knowledge and an additional 24 years of life. He proceeds to waste this time on self-indulgence and low tricks.

Faustus is the protagonist and a scholar sixteen century who from Germany. However, his ambition is to gain knowledge and wealth that makes him willing to pay his soul to Lucifer in exchanging for supernatural power.Although there is seen a great dark path by Faustus,he is unwilling to admit his mistake.
