What is the meaning of the phrase "He was reminded that she was nameless." in the context in which it appears?

I believe this is to remind him that Madame Valmonde didn't know where she was from/what her origins were. Valamonde took her in. Armoand says he doesn't care and wants to be with her. I think by saying this is foreshadows that Armand will accuse her of being mixed and ultimatley not love her anymore.
