Watch the change from Aschenbach's admiration of Tadzio to his obsession with Tadzio and everything about Tadzio and his life. The culmination of that obsession includes a very orgiastic dream with references to Dionysius and much mythological reference to things such as Narcissus. At the end, when he believes that Tadzio is coming towards him, Aschenbach becomes so weak that he gets up only to collapse and die. Indeed his obsession takes him over and ultimately takes away his life.
