Carpe Diem is Latin for "seize the day." Mr. Keating encourages his students to "suck the marrow" out of life...... to take chances and risks, to discover their full potential. Keating believes that this is the way to realize greatness in oneself. It also carries the risk of failure when "seize the day" doesn't work out the way you expect it to. The pain of loss might be seen as a result of "seizing the day."
